Bastion Unit E-54

Severely damaged in the final battles of the Omnic war, Bastion Unit E-54 laid dormant in a forest in Germany for over a decade. Covered in vines and roots, Bastion was re-activated one day by a curious bird. Surrounded by nature, Bastion was fascinated by the lush green world around him. With his combat programming all but lost, Bastion traversed through the wilderness, discovering new fauna and foliage at each turn. Although he looks harmless, when violent acts are directed towards him, his combat program briefly re-activates for his defense. He avoids populated areas in favor of wild, uncharted regions of the world. Check out the video below to see Bastion's story!

The video above is probably one of my favorite animated shorts, ever. First of all, it is absolutely beautiful. The forest in the video is near pixar-like in quality. The music accompanies the scenes really well, giving off a sense of wonder and discovery. What I like the most about the video was its ability to convey so much emotion through a robot with no facial expressions. They made bastion seem happy, sad, and frightened through body motions and pitched beeps. The music, again, accompanied these moments really well. I adored the scene that briefly shows what the omnic war was like. It gives viewers a small glimpse at what humans had to go through, and it gives them a better idea as to why some characters in Overwatch are very against "Omnic Rights".

What's funny about this character, gameplay-wise, is that before the video showing origin was released, everyone in the Overwatch community hated the way he played, and how easily he could mow down enemies. After the video, people grew to like the character more, even though he was still considered a nuisance to fight against.
